RC Chippewa Switchgrass is an upland type switchgrass.
Characteristics
High biomass production, larger seed and quicker establishment than parent, reduced seed dormancy, quick emergence.
Increased height reaching 6 - 7 ½ ft during the growing season, higher production levels in first 3 years of seeding, erect growth habit, lodging resistance, rapid growth, winter hardy, persistent.
Production Area – Adaptable to all soil types, suited areas with 500 mm+ of rainfall per season, adaptable to different climatic zones, 2300 – 2800 CHU, 146 days from May 1 to seed maturity

• Livestock feeding and bedding
• Mulching applications
• Conservation planting
• Habitat screening
• Biomass production
Seed size – 210 mg / 100 seeds
Seeding Rate – 8-10 kg. / ha PLS
Maturity – Late September – October (4 days earlier than Cave-In-Rock, 7 days earlier than RC Big Rock)
Yield – 9-13 tonnes / ha dry matter, harvestable yield first year
